A perfect family yacht

Recognizable touch of Studio Garroni and unmistakable French charm make Prestige 630 a stylish family cruiser

One of the many advantages of attending Jeanneau’s media events is the opportunity to learn every detail about the yacht presented. During our stay in Cannes this April, we have attended sea trials of Prestige 630, and were introduced to it by brand director Adrien Breton. The latest model replaces 620 in the gamma, and although it is only one foot longer than the predecessor, they differ in almost everything. Every part of the 630 has been redesigned – the hull, the superstructure, the drive and the interior – to achieve optimal balance and harmony. Studio Garroni, whose designers have been shaping Prestige range since it came into existence, gave the 630 its distinctive shape. Garroni and his crew have been shaping Prestige models for more than twenty-five years, and yet still know how to create something fresh.

omewhat inspired by very succesfull Prestige 680, the new 630 is a family yacht capable of comfortable speed, blessed with every element that makes Prestige one of the most popular brands on the world. The salon is large, filled with natural light and inviting, with dimmable LED lights that create cozy atmosphere. The galley is aft, the dining space on the bow and the command post starboard on the bow, with a staircase starboard aft leading onto the lower deck Master stateroom – this separate access having become somewhat of a trademark of Garroni and Prestige. The Master cabin is large and furnished with a double bed, a night stand and a comfortable sofa, and connected to a private head. In forward part of the lower deck, there is VIP cabin and there is enough space for a large guest cabin, the one space on the yacht that benefited most from the overall increase in size. The double bed cabin with a private head has two large windows and calm, modern furnishings. The interior of all cabins is stylish and somewhat customizable with three types of wood and endless choice of patterns and fabrics.

For us, the forte of this model are without a doubt exterior spaces, especially the fly bridge, which can be protected by a bimini or a hard top. Large and functional, this deck offers several practical solutions that make it even more attractive and useful, like the movable dining table that disappears into the boards, making space for another sun pad. Interiors and exteriors, brim with storage space, which makes it suitable for longer cruising. The day of our test the Mediterranean was moody, with moderate waves, ideal for getting to know this model advertised as safe and stable. Adrien Berton told us the yacht was easy to maneuver, and demonstrated it, proving once again the perfect suitability of the IPS for yachts of this type and size. It only really takes one person to sail the 630 from marina (the yacht has another set of commands aft, but we didn’t use them on our test), and every other passenger or guest can relax.

Furthermore the 630 is extremely silent in navigation and at no time during the test did the noise level exceed 70 db. After leaving the port, we cruised around the bay of Cannes at 23 knots (230 liters of fuel per hour and at 2300 rpm; what a lovely coincidence) unbelievably smoothly, enjoying the years of experience the brand has in designing hulls. Maximum speed we reached on our test was 29 knots (at 2600 rpm): the yacht could have been faster, we were informed, but that would have attributed to greater fuel consumption and weight increase, and we find this configuration smart from the French. Prestige 630 is powered by two 725-hp Volvo D11 coupled with IPS 950, with engines shifted toward the bow a little to have better weight distribution and make sailing as smooth and stable as possible. The engine room is larger than the one on the 680, with separate access from the skipper’s cabin. Already sold in ten units, Prestige 630 is a worthy successor to the 680 (sold in over thirty units), partly due to its attractive price starting at 1.14 million Euros.
